Tourism Treading on Indigenous Land, Says Rights Group

An international rights advocacy group is demanding the world's tourism industry shed business practices that harm indigenous communities and their cultures.

Tourism plan released

The final version of the Marshall tourism plan has been released.

Tourism task force steering committee project manager Ron Munden told Marshall business owners, members of community organizations and city leaders at a meeting Friday at OS 2 that consulting firm Destination Development Inc. had sent him an electronic copy of the final plan. Hard copies of the plan are being sent from the DDI offices in Washington state for Marshall City Commissioners.

Now, www.visitdelaware.com is the official Web site of the Delaware Tourism Office, which now offers a total upgrade. The Delaware Tourism Office, part of the Delaware Economic Development Office, has recognized the need to develop a more robust Web site to better promote family, group and commercial tourism throughout the state.

Chinese Web Site To Assist Bentonville Tourism

The market appears ripe for a planned Chinese language Web site meant foremost to boost tourism and trade in Bentonville.

The Bentonville Advertising and Promotion Commission approved Thursday giving John Zhang and May Liu, a Bella Vista couple, $2,500 to cover startup costs, equipment and hiring a graphic designer.

The couple would be responsible for generating the revenue to maintain the site, and the commission advised them to ask other organizations including the Bentonville Chamber of Commerce for donations.




Wrestling, Swimming Organizations Receive Tourism Grants

The Advertising and Promotion Commission approved two tourism grants Thursday totaling $10,000 for wrestling and swimming events.

Northwest Arkansas Aquatics of Bentonville received $5,000 for the annual Summer Classic Swim Meet.

The organization expects 400 swimmers plus their family members to attend the July 13-15 event at the Bentonville Melvin Ford Aquatic Center, 2403 E. Central Ave.

In an apparent bid to invigorate its sagging cross-border tourism business, South Korea's outgoing Unification Minister Lee Jong-seok made a two-day visit early this week to North Korea's scenic resort Mt. Kumgang, which has been criticized by the United States and some conservative forces in the South.
